Watch D.O.G.S.
(Dads Of Great Students)

WATCH D.O.G.S.® (Dads Of Great Students) is the safe school initiative of the National Center for Fathering that involves fathers and father figures to help create a more safe and secure learning environment in our nation's schools.

WATCH D.O.G.S.®  are fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day each year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal.

School administrators and dads both agree WATCH D.O.G.S.® is a winner!

  • 79% of principals surveyed strongly agreed or agreed that "The WATCH D.O.G.S.® program has made a significant contribution to the safety of our school."
  • 96% of dads who took part strongly agreed or agreed that their "experience as a Watch DOGS volunteer was rewarding" and they would "want to do something like this again."

And here is what one of our own teachers at SES has to say

“I have been enjoying having the DOG Dads coming into help in my room.  My kiddos enjoy having them, as well.  They are always welcome to come into my room.  I can always find someone for them to help….. This is a great program.”

Here is what you need to do to get going with the program:

  1. Go to the www.fathers.com/watchdogs web site to learn a little bit about the Watch D.O.G.S. program
  2. Order a Watch D.O.G.S. uniform shirt from the web site (t-shirt or sweat shirt – I recommend the latter if you plan to do DOG duty in the winter/spring)
  3. Fill out a background check form available from the SES office and return it back to the office for processing
  4. Sign your name against the day(s) you want to do DOG duty on the Watch D.O.G.S. sign up sheet in the hallway at SES opposite the display case

The weekend before your DOG day you will receive your schedule from me laying out your Dog Day.  You arrive at 8.15am and leave at 3.45pm, typically a Dad spends time in his own kid’s classroom, and in three others as well as helping out at recess and lunch break.
